THAI SEAFOOD SAUCE

March 15, 2016 By Mink 14 Comments

Seafood Sauce

I can’t tell you enough how much I love my Thai Seafood Sauce. I grew up in Bangkok Thailand, so I was spoiled with a variety of fresh seafood. When we had family get-togethers for seafood BBQ, my contribution was always the seafood sauce.

Thai Seafood Sauce

If seafood and the Thai Seafood Sauce were a couple, they would have the perfect marriage. This dipping sauce is fresh, tangy, sweet, a little bit salty and spicy. However, just like other Thai dishes, you can omit or use less chili if you don’t like spicy food. I know you probably think butter is way better, but please give it a try. You may find another side of you that you didn’t know you had. And if you don’t like it, hey, at least you gave it a try. 🙂

Here are the ingredients; limes, agave (or sugar), Fish Sauce, cilantro, Thai chili and garlic.

SeafoodSauce3

Throw everything in a food processor or blender.

SeafoodSauce1

Blend for 15-20 seconds.

SeafoodSauce2

There you have it, Thai Seafood Sauce. How easy was that!?

SeafoodSauce4

I use Thai Seafood Sauce in a lot of my seafood dishes, such as Tilapia in Parchment. Hope you give it a try, the recipe is below.

How long can the sauce last? Is it ok to refridgerate it so it can last for a week or even longer? Thanks!

Hi April. I usually keep it in the fridge for a few days. I store it in a glass mason jar. After a few days it starts to get a bit too strong tasting and the color changes to yellowish, so best to use it up right way.

I am going to try it. Other recipes suggested using a mortar and pestle but all l have is a mutler. I do have a small blender. It looks so good and others on YouTube swear buy it with seafood.

Good question. The fresh sauce is really good as dipping sauce but I never cook with it. However, sometime I add it to the noodle soup to enhance the flavor and it turned the broth into a nice hot and sour soup. 🙂

      Hi Spencer!
To be honest with you, nothing can replace fish sauce. It has that umami flavor that no other sauces can replicate. A little bit goes along way though so if you decide to make it, start with a teaspoon then mix in all the other ingredients and taste it to see if you need more. I ended up with a tablespoon. However, if it’s allergies or just an avoidance of fish sauce, you can try soy sauce. Use the same process as I mentioned above, starting with a little and working your way up to what tastes good to you. Keep in mind, the flavor will be very different, but don’t that stop you from experimenting. Sometimes that’s half the fun. 🙂

Would I be able to replace the Thai chili with Thai chili sauce sold at grocery? I cannot find fresh Thai chili

Hi Sade! I would use jalapeño or serrano pepper. Hope you can find them at your local grocery stores. Try half first and see how spicy it is, then add the other half if you want more heat. 🙂
