If you’ve ever drooled over perfectly glazed, fall-off-the-bone ribs but felt too intimidated to try making them yourself, I’ve got good news. You don’t need a smoker, fancy tools, or a 3-day marinade to make amazing BBQ ribs at home.
Inspired by Ina Garten’s no-fuss cooking style, these BBQ Ribs are beginner-friendly, mouthwatering, and topped with a sticky, sweet and tangy sauce. You can make it spicy if you love the heat like I do. This is the homemade BBQ sauce that you’ll want to put on everything.
Why You’ll Love These Ribs:
• Simple ingredients
• Minimal prep time
• No special equipment, just your oven and your grill
• Homemade sauce that tastes like you’ve been simmering it all day
You Don’t Need to Be a Pitmaster! Trust me on this!
A lot of people think making BBQ ribs means hours of smoking, marinating, and babysitting the grill. Truth is, you can get tender, flavorful, and caramelized ribs with way less fuss. This recipe is for the home cook who just wants to eat good ribs without turning it into a weekend-long project.
Now about the sauce, Ina Garten always says “Store-bought is fine.” But this BBQ sauce is so simple, it’s worth making from scratch. Let it simmers into a glossy, irresistible glaze that takes the ribs to the next level. You can make it as spicy as you want, if you’re like me, I love it hot but you can also make it mild. You do you. Try it once, and you will not want to buy store-bought BBQ sauce again. This recipe will make 1 1/2 quarts, you can use immediately or pour into a container and refrigerate for several weeks. It’s good on roasted chicken, chicken wings, brats, burgers or anything that you love BBQ sauce on!
Time-Saving Tip:
You can make the sauce in advance, and the ribs only need about 1.5 to 2 hours in the oven, making this perfect for weeknights or impromptu weekend grilling.
Let’s cook some food! or should I say let’s BBQ some ribs!
First, make the BBQ sauce.
Heat the oil in a large saucepan like a Dutch oven over low heat, add the onion and cook until translucent, but not browned. Add the garlic and cook for one more minute.

Add the tomato paste, vinegar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, low sodium soy sauce or Golden Mountain Seasoning sauce, Hoisin sauce, chili powder, cumin and red pepper flakes. I used a tablespoon of red pepper flakes because I love it spicy, use less if you don’t like it spicy. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350 ºF. Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil. Sprinkle the ribs with 2 teaspoons salt and 1 teaspoon pepper.

Place the ribs on the sheet pan. Pour the barbecue sauce generously on each rack, both sides. Place the ribs meat-side up on the pan.

Cover the ribs loosely with aluminum foil.

Bake for 1 1/2 hours for baby backs and 1 3/4 hours for St. Louis ribs, until the meat is very tender when tested with a fork.

As soon as the ribs are out of the oven, grill right away on high heat (or refrigerate to grill later).
Place the ribs on the grill ribs-side down, brush the ribs with the dripping sauce from the pan and grill for 5 minutes.

Turn the ribs meat-side down, brush with some more dripping sauce and grill for another 4 to 5 minutes, until nicely browned.

Place on a cutting board and cover tightly with aluminum foil and allow the ribs to rest for 10 minutes. Cut into ribs and serve hot with extra BBQ sauce on the side.

If you’re a beginner at BBQ or just short on time, don’t overthink it. This easy BBQ Ribs with Homemade BBQ Sauce recipe is proof that you can make something impressive without the stress. They’re sticky, savory, satisfying, and they might just be your new summer go-to.
